May 13, 2019 – The story of Charles Kettles is one of the most amazing to have ever been discussed. Charles Kettles is a Medal of Honor recipient who has remained quiet over the years, but his story is truly amazing. A new documentary about his life will shine a light on the great work that he completed and how important he was to many of his fellow soldiers while serving during the Vietnam War.
During the early morning hours of May 15, 1967, Kettles and others in the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, were ambushed in the Song Tra Cau river area by a large North Vietnamese army group. Kettles and reinforcements were stuck in a situation where their aircraft was heavily damaged while his gunner was wounded. Kettles helped with bringing his aircraft back to base and heroically helped get his men out of danger even as fuel was leaking.
Kettles saved the lives of 44 men in his act of heroism. Today, his story of courage and bravery in insurmountable odds is finally being told as a tale of strength and honor.
