The indie studio has already brought four games to the Steam store. Each of them has been different from each other, which are: Death Coming, Iris Fall, Bladed Fury and their most popular title, Unheard. Not long after releasing Unheard, NEXT Studios has announced, they are ready to release a Closed Beta version of their new fighting game, Metal Revolution.

Based on the game’s Steam page, Metal Revolution is a 2D fighting game set in a futuristic, cyberpunk world. The game is designed to be simple to pick-up but difficult to master, bearing resemblances back to the 2016 Robo-fighting title Rising Thunder. However, NEXT Studios intends to bring Metal Revolution to full fruition. The game has received attention from notable figures like Justin Wong and Event Hub from a very early stage in the development. In Justin Wong’s video, he gave the game a high rating, and Event Hub said that the game “Could be the phoenix to arise from Rising Thunder’s ashes”.

Sources tell us, the game has 11 unique characters, including martial artists, sportsmen, swordsmen, and even mechanical animals. The game is designed so that each character has their own fighting style with traditional influences from Muay Thai, Boxing, Taekwondo, and Kendo, combined with futuristic combat mechanics that ground the game within the cyberpunk setting.

In terms of gameplay, the game uses a two-button attack input system. Attacks are executed by combining a directional input and an attack input. This allows players access to every character’s move set from the beginning of playing. Underneath the simplified controls, the designers have built a blocking system and a parry system that allow the skillful defender to overcome an attacker’s pressure and punish their reckless moves.

With the gameplay being focused on the idea of being easy to learn, the designers have chosen to use a two-button attack system, which breaks down the combat into a series of basic and special attacks. With the addition of directional inputs the player will be able to use a variety of attacks, which have been built to complement the fighter’s personality and playstyle. With the same controls, the players can utilize the blocking and parry systems, which allow for quick responses to incoming attacks, providing them with a satisfying fighting experience.

Along with health, characters will have another resource called energy. This has a large variety of uses, ranging from blocking and dodging to activating powerful ultimate moves. Managing this resource, will be an important part of the game and play a large part separating the beginners from the pros.

Each character also has an energy meter below their health bar. The energy meter is an important resource that effects defensive and offensive options. It can be used to unleash ultimate attacks for heavy damage or used to blocking, burst and cancel opponent’s attacks. The energy meter slowly regenerates over time and requires careful use and management.

The art style of the game has proven to be one of the games strongest points and even at this early stage of development is quite polished. The in-game audio is currently still in production and the characters still don’t have fully recorded voice lines which sometimes detracts from the overall experience. The UI is also another aspect that the team is continuing to improve.

According to the developers the game is tentatively scheduled to release in 2019, with its initial launch targeted for Steam and iOS.
