Inversity Consulting is proud to announce the date for the Groundbreaking ceremony for their designed Charles City County Public Library. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 29th at 3:00 p.m. on the grounds next to Charles City County Courthouse. The new 8,200 square foot area will serve as the new hub for residents to gather, utilize library services, and continuously house the community’s collections.
Charles City County is a historic area, with one of the oldest counties in the United States. The seat of the historic county, which traces its roots all the way back to 1619, needs a home for much of its modern-day function stricken with the balance of its old roots. MEP Engineers Virginia of Inversity Consulting envisioned this space to account for such needs with areas for teens and children, an extensive program room, and the Center for Local History to account for multipurpose uses.
The new space will also host a set of computers for the general public, with the county approving $60,000 in upgrades to computer equipment as well as audio and visual technology. The new library utilizes open areas for meeting, studying, and relaxing. Most important is the collection of materials. The housing of books and other media opens itself up with wide spaces to browse materials, and plenty of furniture for taking finds to a chair or table to read.
Given that the library is located at the seat of the county and resides next to other functional buildings, the team has accounted for its use within the context of the town. The library is part of the County Government Complex and has been designed with this in mind. The library will have in the future an outdoor amphitheater for the use of community programs, performances, and public ceremonies. The design also pulls from iconic looks and features that distinguish Charles City County.
